Peltz Gallery invites you to the launch event for HERE: A FAIR RESTING-PLACE – work in progress exhibition by George Townsend and Duncan Montgomery 14.3.23 - 28.4.23
HERE: A FAIR RESTING-PLACE represents an ongoing collaboration between postdoctoral researcher George Townsend and wood engraver Duncan Montgomery, supported via Birkbeck by Wellcome's Institutional Strategic Support Fund. The installation presents archival material alongside a series of new wood engravings. This expands on Townsend's doctoral research, which investigated the cultural history of Parson's Pleasure – a male-only nude bathing place on Oxford's River Cherwell, active from the seventeenth century to 1992. The lobby becomes a pop-up resting place; a point, like the bathing-place, of rest, reflection, recuperation. Here, you can pause to study the finely detailed artwork.
On Tuesday the 14th of March, 18:00-20:00, the School of Arts Café will host a drinks event to celebrate the opening of the installation.
